I had never tasted death before, nor did I expect it to be so sweet.
I thought we were going to talk, spread a few polite words between old high school chums. I was wrong. I hadn't seen Harmony Kendall since graduation, and have never claimed to want to see her. But alas I did, outside that 24 hour ice cream store. She was eating with a small, petite young, blonde, girl, who I assumed was her sister.
When all of a sudden she came chasing after me, wanting to 'talk'. Our talk was nothing more than your run of the mill, boring, idle chit chat. Until I asked her how her post college life was. She smiled sweetly, and then her face, shifted, changed somehow. And I was no longer looking at Sunnydale High's ex princess, I was looking at a monster. She answered my question with "I wouldn't know, I never left."
And then, I sacrificed myself nobley for the common good. Or it sounds more noble that way, as she sank her elongated canines into the tender flesh of my neck, and drank me into darkness.
Ah how I found bliss in ignorance that night.
I awoke in darkness, I felt odd, slightly groggy, as if it were all a dream, but then it hit. Far too powerful to be anything of mortal demise. I was a god. Or a vamprie relatively speaking. I could feel the blood lust, and i could hear the worms in the earth, and smell the sweet scent of dank top soil. I was a creature of the night.
I had never felt so alive before. It was amazing. Had I a still beating heart, it would have run rampant within my chest. I could comprehend the darkness, understand it's deepest hidden motives. What poetry!
I clawed my way through the wooden mortal casket, it could not stop me, for I was the mighty vampire. I clawed through six grueling feet of dirt, until I emerged upon the surface. A new child born from the flesh of the planet. As I loooked upon the world with my new vampiric eyes, I saw her.
Hands placed on her delicate hips, blowing a large, bright, pink, bubble with a huge wad of gum. "It's about time!" She said rolling her eyes, brushing some of the dirt from my clothes. "I so don't remember it ever taking this long for me to rise! I thought I had done something wrong." She said with a grin.
Even in death Harmony was still Harmony, as I was still the tormented, and tortured poet, I was in life. "I feel oddly different." I said after a few minutes of surveying the graveyard.
"Well duh!" She said with an exasperated sigh. "You're a vampire now, and you're hungry, so let's go find some poor bum on the street, so you can eat, and then we'll go back to the crypt....Because I'm so missing Ricki Lake!" She said turning to walk away.
"Bum...crypt?" I said questioningly. It wa shard enough to adjust to my new senses, now I had to comprehend to her babblings as well.
"Yeah, bum...hobo, equals food. And crypt is where we live during the day so we're not all ahhh! the sun! and go poof!" She tapped her leather clas foot impatiently. "Dont' you know anything about being a vampire? Sheesh!"
I might not know about being a vamipire, but I was slowly learning what it felt like to crave the sweet taste of blood. "Yes, food." I said As I turned to follow behind her.
